LESSONS

Our Program

We currently offer one hour private lessons given by one of our fully insured instructors. Riders can take lessons on their own horse or one of our well trained, quiet school horses. We can start riders as young as 3 with special Tiny Tot lessons. Depending on instructor availability, lessons are offered 6 days a week from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

We believe in creating a solid foundation of skills in our students, learning all aspects of horsemanship. Lessons are tailored to meet the clients needs and desires. We help the students figure out their goals and develop a program to help them achieve success. Starting with compassion and respect for our horses, we teach our clients about safe handling, good grooming, saddle fit, basic horse first aid,  and lunging along with good basic riding skills. Private, one on one lessons allow for students to progress at their own pace.

  • 1 hour lesson on your own horse – $60.00

  • 1 hour lesson on our school horse – $70.00

  • Tiny tot lessons price varies according to student needs

Meet Our Instructors

Melissa Bertz

Head Trainer & Barn Manager

Melissa Bertz is the head trainer of Exclusive Show Horses. Missy has been training horses professionally for over 20 years. She began working out of Exclusive Equine Center in 2008 after meeting owner, Kelly Thommes at a show.

Not blessed with a “horsey” family, she grew up riding and taking lessons whenever possible. After saving up money to buy her first horse at age 16, Missy has continued to pursue her career in training and in teaching. She has learned many disciplines from great trainers through the years, including: Western Pleasure, jumping, and reining.

Angie Olson

Instructor

Angie Olson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Crookston’s Equine Science Program. She began at EEC as a full time assistant trainer and instructor to continue to hone her skills and knowledge.

One of Angie’s passion is teaching the beginning rider from three years old and up. She says that seeing the ‘light bulb’ go off in one of her students is one of the most rewarding moments as an instructor.

Anna Szyplinski

Instructor/Assistant Trainer

Anna came to Exclusive Equine Center in 2017 as an assistant trainer to Melissa Bertz. Her passion lies with Barrel Racing and game events, but she loves to challenge herself and her horses to dabble in a bit of everything, from cattle sorting and drill team to overnight camping and trail rides.

Anna instructs our beginning riders and helps them find their passion in the horse industry. Anna finds pride in maintaining her focus on our equine partners and teaching her riders about good horsemanship and sportsmanship.
